Best PhD Programs in Natural Sciences in Europe 2019
The most popular doctorate is the Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D. Ph.D.s and other study doctorates prepare graduate student to launch new plans that add to the common knowledge base of the field. Candidates for and holders of Ph.D.s often seek professions as professors and researchers, but many also go on to different roles in the charitable, public, and private sectors.
Research in Natural Studies is vital to understanding how the earth works and how its various systems interact with one another. Those who study Natural Science on the doctoral level will be in a position to lead these studies. A PhD in Natural Science is the degree required for research and instruction in this area of science.

Doctoral Study on Chemistry Didactics is the culmination of the three-tier university education. Is a targeted grounding in research activities focused on teaching and learning chemistry, which is based on deepening the knowledge of the chemistry didactics and of the relevant area of chemistry, pedagogy, psychology, computer science and other disciplines, to learn the methods of scientific work in the mentioned fields and will significantly contribute to a comprehensive improvement of the work of chemistry teachers at various levels of the education system, experts on curriculum creation and its evaluation in accordance with current scientific knowledge and research. The branch includes a range of topics, e.g. the transformation of scientific knowledge of chemical processes into chemistry teaching and learning, research and development of school chemical experiments, ICT applications in chemical education, environmental and toxicological aspects of chemistry education etc. A mandatory part of the study relates to the acquisition of deep knowledge of chemistry didactics (educational theory and practice in chemistry), selected areas of specialized chemistry and pedagogical methodology and especially chemistry didactic research. Individual study plan allows getting more specific knowledge and skills, in particular through elective courses....

QBM seeks to train a cohort of young scientists who, while firmly anchored in their home discipline, are well versed in multiple approaches and styles of thought. The goal is for the students to get comfortable in communicating across traditional boundaries, especially across the divide between experiment and quantitative theory – to become, in effect, scientifically bi- or multilingual. To this end, the school offers an integrated interdisciplinary Ph.D. program that consists of three main components:
An interdisciplinary research project which combines concepts and methods from different fields.
A substantial program of formal course work with a general and an individual component centered around an interdisciplinary core course that covers key problems in bioscience from multiple perspectives.
Further activities to enhance students’ other transferable skills to succeed in science as a competitive profession.

Biology, biotechnology, and biosciences have been rapidly developing since 2000. To handle the data produced, computer technology is required due to the excessive amount of data. Most of the recent techniques used in DNA, RNA and protein-based research is supported by bioinformatics and computer science. Computer science offers a new era for the biological sciences. For example the building block of the cell, proteins are modeled in 3D using a computer; this enables the rapid and efficient identification of molecular interactions and signals transduction pathways. Similarly, mutations in the genetic sequence can be detected quite fast using computer technology. Since the recent advancements in computational biology decreased the cost and accelerated the research processes including the drug development, the in silico studies are highly demanded in the industry....

The research undertaken within Geography falls under two interdisciplinary Research Clusters; Environmental Change & Resilience (ECR) and Culture & Society (C&S). Physical Geography-related projects focus on themes such as long-term landscape and environmental change, the resilience of ecosystems, environmental change impacts on heritage structures, and analysis of contaminated lands. Investigative approaches include a range of geospatial technologies such as remote sensing, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), big data analysis and spatial and temporal modelling. Much of our research spans several disciplines, for example, projects on the hydrogeology and restoration of bogs, climate change implications for resilience and stability of soil, geoforensics and coastal geomorphology....

PhD in Computational Sciences and Engineering Graduate education in computational science and engineering (CMSE) at Koç University is offered through an interdisciplinary program among the Departments of the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering. In this program graduate, students are trained on modern computational science techniques and their applications to solve scientific and engineering problems. New technological problems and associated research challenge heavily depend on computational modeling and problem-solving. Because of the availability of powerful and inexpensive computers, model-based computational experimentation is now a standard approach to analysis and design of complex systems where real experiments can be expensive or infeasible. Graduates of the CMSE Program should be capable of formulating solutions to computational problems through the use of multidisciplinary knowledge gained from a combination of classroom and laboratory experiences in basic sciences and engineering. Individuals with B.S. degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, and related engineering disciplines should apply for graduate study in the CMSE Program.Research areas of interest...
