Focus on the study of the brain and addresses the challenge of developing an integrative understanding of cognition and higher brain function. In response to this challenge, the rapidly developing field of neuroscience has produced an exponential increase in the amount of data available to investigators as they develop new theories of brain function and new hypotheses to test. The main objective of the program is to prepare students to participate at the cutting edge of this exciting field in academia, industry, and government. The program provides students with a rich interdisciplinary intellectual environment that fosters the development of the skills they will need to successfully pursue research careers. -

How did such an amazing variety of living things evolve on Earth? What makes these bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals? How do living things differ from non-living things? Part of these questions forms the foundation of biology and life sciences. A research thesis in this area of study should provide answers to these questions. -

The Ph.D. in Biological Sciences program at Carnegie Mellon University exemplifies the interdisciplinary approach that has become an essential feature of modern biomedical science. Biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cell and developmental biology, computational biology, molecular biology and genetics and neuroscience encompass our research foci; many students are involved in several disciplines while working on their research projects. This interdisciplinarity is unusual for departments of a similar size. -

PhD by research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis. The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the only doctoral degree that can be achieved through distance learning. The main requirement for a PhD online through distance learning is to present and discuss a thesis of at least 100 pages for review and evaluation by an academic committee at Selinus University. In this doctoral programme, the thesis research should provide the most current information, knowledge and applications in the field of genetics. Nowadays, the key to a problem affecting neurons, cells and/or cancer can lie in cellular and genetic research. In the field of cell biology and genetics, a person wonders whether to marvel more at the infinite variety of living systems or the fundamental similarities of the mechanisms that operate in all living cells. The final thesis on this important academic topic should be based on original developments and discoveries on the subject. -
