Top 22 Doctors of Philosophy in Architecture Studies 2019
The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!). That said, PhD recipients are able to engage in thought experiments, reason about problems, and solve problems in sophisticated ways.
Architecture is the process of designing and planning a space or building according to a set of aesthetic, social and environmental guidelines. Because of this, architecture is often divided into categories depending on the overarching style.

Ph.D. in ArchitectureThe doctoral study programme in Architecture lasts 3 years (6 semesters) and is comprised of a total of 180 ects–credits. The study programme includes 60 ects–credits in organized study form, and 120 ects–credits of individual research work (basic or applied research). The organized forms are comprised of a general, architectural module and interdisciplinary optional modules, as well as of an annual research presentation (ranging from the presentation of the study plan to the defense of the dissertation). The scientific title acquired by the doctoral student in the field of architecture is Doctor of Science. The abbreviated form of the title placed in front of the name is Dr.Baisc GoalsThe programme trains the independent scientific researcher in the widest problem area of architectural issues, demonstrating responsibility towards the cultural region and excellence at an international level. Responsibility for architecture as both a field of scientific research and a cultural region derives from the significance of architectural design, the quality of buildings harmonizing with the environment, respect for natural and urban landscapes, whichis in the public interest. The quality of physical space is protected in the public interest by Slovenian and Europeanlegislation.General competencies...

Architecture at Queen’s addresses the issues of architecture and urbanism in an increasingly globalised world, where factors such as sustainability and climate change, identity and heritage, and notions of craft and form create a complex context that architecture has to mediate.
Architecture at Queen’s values both traditional academic and practice-based research. We have the expertise to support PhDs involving deep investigations into cultural, historic and technological contexts both in Ireland and globally. Our practice-based PhDs (offered in association with the ADAPTr programme) and research-by-design activities promise new knowledge through not only the analysis of the existing but also the documentation of new processes and situations created by new design thinking. In both, architecture is seen both as a lens and as a measure of urban, suburban and rural landscapes....

This Doctoral Program follows principles aimed at the training of researchers with a strong scientific background, highly qualified in solving problems, endowed with a high sense of scientific integrity, with the capacity to communicate with an entrepreneurial spirit, with a high degree of autonomy and ability of continuous learning. In addition to carrying out the research work leading to the preparation of the thesis (162 ECTS), the doctorate must obtain 18 ECTS in optional curricular units. They can also attend Seminars, Short Courses and others that are of interest to complete their training and participate in scientific meetings in the area of Landscape Arts and Techniques in which they are expected to submit work. The aim is to encourage and increase the skills of doctoral students and all the skills and abilities required of a candidate for a doctoral degree. These will be evaluated throughout the Program, culminating in the presentation and public discussion of the doctoral thesis, which will be done and evaluated according to the aforementioned regulation for the award of the doctorate degree by the University of Évora. The aim is to strengthen scientific research in order to obtain researchers with ecological, ethical and aesthetic sense, rigor and scientific integrity prepared to design, carry out and evaluate scientific research projects....

The Ph.D. course prepares culture-oriented and high scientific profile researchers to engineering applications, and enable them to develop knowledge, new methods of investigation, design and research activity in public or private bodies, along with managerial competencies. The available curricula are Architecture and Civil-Environmental Engineering.
Activities are oriented to advanced design, theoretical analysis, soft-computing, and experimentation. The first year includes courses or lectures on basic science subjects and organizational aspects of research, according to the weaknesses of the individual initial preparation and the selected research themes. An analysis of the state of the art will be also carried out, and the main theme of study will be identified. The second and third year will be devoted to the individual themes, and a stay in a research body of international relevance will be proposed. Common features are a multidisciplinary theoretical-experimental approach and interaction with the territory, the industrial and professional world....

The official program of Doctorate in "Architecture and Urbanism" Is organized by the University of A Coruña. Being a unique degree in the University System of Galicia is intended to collect research activities in these disciplines in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, but without giving up its expansion at national and international level.
The program is aimed at training doctors in the different disciplines of Architecture and Urbanism. As it is a question of answering researches with very different fields, the program has seven lines of research that respond to the areas of knowledge typical of architecture and urbanism and that form the student in the knowledge of degree and master. These are:...
